Can CBD oil be used for the treatment or prevention of Diabetes?
With the popularity of CBD oil and other Hemp oil properties increasing daily, more research is being devoted to finding out how CBD and Hemp can help various problems people are experiencing. At this time, per the FDA, CBD products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease; however, that could change in the near future.
What we, Hemp House Plus, do know is our customers who have various problems and take our CBD oil have been telling us their symptoms and problems have been reduced if not eliminated.
CBD and Diabetes
The human body is a very complex "machine" and everyone is different and reacts differently to everything. Even a simple aspirin can have different effects on different people. This is why it can be difficult to find a solution to various problems for the vast majority.
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder where the body is unable to produce or use insulin properly. Because of this, the human body could experience irregular blood glucose levels which can cause many problems, including death.
There are two basic categories for diabetes – Type 1 and Type 2.
About 5% of those who have a diabetic problem suffer from Type 1 diabetes. These people are unable to produce enough insulin (if at all) while the rest of the diabetic population have Type 2 diabetes where their body doesn't know how to react to the insulin the body produces and because the body senses it is not getting enough insulin (since the cells are not accepting the insulin produced) it could produce too much causing even more problems.
Insulin is used to maintain the glucose (sugar) level in the blood. When we eat, insulin is produced in the pancreas. The insulin helps in glucose absorption from consumed food to use or store for energy.
In either form of diabetes, glucose is not available for the cells and people could develop life-threatening symptoms like:
- Stroke
- Vision/Eye problems
- Kidney damage
- Nerve damage
- Various health complications with the heart and blood vessels
These problems could lead to death.
CBD Oil and Hemp Oil
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol and interacts with two receptors in the body from the "endocannabinoid system." This endocannabinoid system has many functions in the body that help regulate homeostasis (a stable, even sense of well-being). Homeostasis is when everything is in balance within the body, meaning everything feels good, not too hot, not too cold...just right.
Your body is always striving to maintain a state of homeostasis in order to keep your internal systems working as they should.
Although hemp plants have been used for thousands of years, there is still a lot to learn about them. We only recently, in the past 100 years or so, have developed the technology that will give us more insight into how the body works and how various chemicals affect the body inside and out.
Current evidence is suggesting an overactive endocannabinoid system (ECS) could contribute to the development of diabetes due to the promotion of energy intake and storage, which hurts both glucose and lipid metabolism.
If true, and from the responses of a lot of our customers - it does seem to be happening that way, CBD oil's unique ability to block the endocannabinoid receptors reduces the body's ability to get too overactive which in turn reduces its' ability to produce too much insulin.
This is why CBD oil for diabetes is helping so many of our customers.
But remember, CBD products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Scientific Studies on CBD use for diabetes prevention or treatment
A diabetes study was documented on Type 2 diabetic patients and published in the Diabetes Care Journal in 2016. This study inspected the potential effects of CBD and THCV, another cannabis compound, on HDL or good cholesterol, insulin sensitivity, glycemic control, and other markers.
Results showed while CBD helped improve the levels of one of the incretin hormones and resistin level, a factor related to insulin resistance, it has not displayed any metabolic effects or improved glycemic control. On the other hand, THCV showed positive results in reducing fasting plasma glucose levels.
Diabetes Prevention Tips
A five-year study on diabetes prevention found people who use hemp and cannabis regularly (with or without THC) have fasting insulin levels at least 16% lower than the participants who have never used cannabis. They also showed an insulin resistance level that is 17% lower than non-cannabis users.
In addition, past users of cannabis or hemp also demonstrated having better cholesterol, fasting insulin and insulin resistance levels in comparison to non-users.
Insulin Resistance Treatment
When the cells in the body are unable to react to insulin, they cannot absorb glucose (sugar). This results in a glucose build up in the blood leading to dangerously high levels of blood glucose.
Many researchers have suggested the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD oil can be used for insulin resistance treatment for diabetes patients. Most people have picked up their CBD products from the Hemp store in Dickson to try this and to treat the resulting inflammation, which can be a side-effect of Type-2 diabetes. The immune system and cardiovascular system perform much better when the body has less inflammation.
Obesity Prevention Tips
The more overweight you are, the more likely you are to experience insulin resistance (Type-2 Diabetes) and continued chronic inflammation. Excess fatty tissue reduces the effectiveness of your glucose metabolism (the breaking down of glucose to use as energy) which further increases the levels of blood glucose (high sugar). The possible anti-inflammatory properties of CBD are believed to help with glucose metabolic disorders and improve your overall metabolism.
Neuropathy Treatment
Diabetic patients can also suffer from nerve damage (neuropathy) in their hands and feet. This type of problem and pain are usually resistant to conventional forms of opioids (drugs).
A recent study suggests CBD has produced better results than conventional medicines (drugs/opioids) and it may help increase the growth of nerve cells. CBD may also help protect the liver from oxidative stress, which can contribute to neuropathy development.
While CBD products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease; customers of Hemp House Plus in Dickson, TN have continually told us our CBD products in Dickson have been extremely helpful in a number of areas including pain management.
Homeostasis
Your body wants to be in balance - chemically, mentally, physically.
Unfortunately, depending on what you eat, what you do (your activity level), age, environment, and just too many factors to mention, your body can have a hard time maintaining that level of balance and calm.
Research into the effects of CBD oil will continue for years, decades, maybe centuries and we know CBD products are not currently intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
But we also know what our customers tell us.
